Flavors of Fifth 2.0

Last August, the Fifth Avenue South Business Improvement District (BID) launched a new initiative called “Flavors of Fifth,” which by all accounts was a delightful and delicious success. Ten of our restaurants participated in the month-long event, donating $1.00 of every meal ordered from their Prix Fix Menus to an organization known as Beverly’s Angels. The non-profit took in almost $12,000, and magically turned the donations into 65 Santa Sacks for the children of certain Fifth Avenue South employees, many of whom work multiple jobs and drive more than an hour to get to and from work every day.

Welcome to Flavors of Fifth 2.0!!! A new and expanded version of this program is well underway this August, right now, and we hope you will come dine on the Avenue, not only to experience some of the best cuisine in the country but also to show your support for our amazing restaurants, and most importantly, the employees of the Fifth Avenue family.

This year, there are 17 restaurants participating. The Prix Fix menus are not only a bargain for guests but provide a special benefit to some employees that are having a hard time making ends meet and may need a little help this coming Christmas.

Beverly’s Angels supports workers in our community who are earnestly striving to build their own paths, navigating careers and full-time jobs, and often enduring long commutes. Many have been profoundly affected by the elevated cost of living in Southwest Florida or by changes within their families. That’s where Beverly’s Angels is providing a hand up, not a handout.

“No parent wants their child to feel disappointed or overlooked by Santa Claus,” says Beverly’s Angels Founder Faith Schwalback. “Our goal is to ensure that every child experiences the magic of the season,” says Faith. “At our unique Tinsel Team Headquarters, our goal is to empower those who are working hard for themselves and rarely ask for assistance. We provide a service like no other during the holiday season.”

While Beverly’s Angels serves all of Collier County, its primary focus is the City of Naples and its employees. The organization recently moved into the city and is now located at 3050 N Horseshoe Drive, Suite 105. Faith says of the move, “We view Fifth Avenue as the heart of paradise, especially for those who shop and dine there. What we strive to do is make it paradise for those who work on the Avenue and may need a little help at Christmas, whether servers, assistant chefs, salesclerks, custodial staff, shelf stockers, inventory clerks, or others. They are all people who provide services that create the magic of our beautiful and beloved Naples. Our program not only helps them financially with the dollars contributed to creating the Santa Sacks for their families but also helps them feel more appreciated where they work.”

Beverly’s Angels is all about “community collaboration” and what is happening on Fifth Avenue South is a great example. Santa Sacks are all specifically curated to meet the Christmas wish list of an employee’s children or sometimes even grandchildren living with them. “When we come to Fifth Avenue, it’s our goal to give the employees the royal treatment,” says Faith. “We are overjoyed to be able to help. We even get a police escort down Fifth as we unload our Santa Sacks. And when we see the smiles on the recipients’ faces, we feel like real life angels.”

While our participating restaurants sponsor Flavors of Fifth, as well as donate to Beverly’s Angels, any business on Fifth Avenue South can nominate an employee(s) for this special recognition for their work.

The BID has always supported philanthropic efforts in our community, including the Naples Police Department’s “Do the Right Thing” initiative, the Alzheimer’s Association, the David Lawrence Center, and STARability, in addition to Beverly’s Angels. Additionally, our events and parades, like Cars on Fifth that has supported St. Matthew’s House and the St. Patrick’s Day parade that sponsors high school bands and provides scholarships, have made an impact. The BID has also invited more than a dozen non-profits to participate at no charge in our Halloween and Christmas events, providing them with valuable opportunities for community exposure.
