Smiles, cheers light up 21st annual MLK Day parade
January 15, 2018
Monday morning was chilly by any standard, and especially by Southwest Florida standards, with winds creating a real feel in the upper 30s, but that didn’t deter dedicated high school students from participating in the 21st annual MLK Day parade in downtown Naples.
The holiday, which commemorates the birthday of renowned civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is usually a day off for students; however, the Collier County School Board unanimously voted on Sept. 26 to hold school on MLK Day, Presidents Day, the first day of spring break, a teacher professional development day and a teacher planning day to make up for academic days lost to Hurricane Irma.
