Fourteen local theaters announce upcoming seasons
If you go to the theater next season, you’ll get to spend time with sex therapist Dr. Ruth, superstar mega-agent Sue Mengers, the clever Roman slave Pseudolus and British sleuths Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
You’ll spend time in a Louisiana beauty shop, a cut-throat barbershop on Fleet Street and be privy to the goings-on backstage at a farce. You’ll also get to travel around the world in 80 days.
Fourteen local theaters have announced their upcoming 2018-2019 season, a mix of old and new, traditional and avant-garde.
There are large-cast musicals (“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” at Gulfshore Playhouse, “The Music Man” at Asolo Repertory Theatre) and one-person shows (“Becoming Doc- tor Ruth” at Florida Repertory Theatre, “An Iliad” at Gulfshore Playhouse.) There are old chestnuts (Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers” by the Naples Players and “The Glass Menagerie” by The Studio Players) and edgy new plays (“Damascus” at Florida Rep, “Marjorie Prime” by the Naples Players.)
