Public attendance of April 1, 2020 City Council meeting
April 1, 2020
No doubt tomorrow’s City Council meeting holds historic significance for the City of Naples. Congratulations are indeed in order for the Mayor-Elect and Council Members Elect as they are sworn into their respective offices.
Given the unique circumstances we are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I must respectfully request any persons who are planning to attend for the ceremonial aspects (e.g. the swearing-in ceremony) of this meeting to please consider and choose to attend via our website by following this link or on your local government access channels through your cable TV provider (Comcast, CenturyLink or Summit).
We are using social distancing measures inside the Council chamber resulting in very limited seating capacity (less than 25 available seats). Additional seating will be made available outside of the chamber for a limited few (less than 15 seats available). Individuals choosing to stand outside will be asked to maintain social distancing at 6-feet apart.
It is very important to understand, we are not prohibiting anyone from their right to speak to their governing body. Public comment will still be available by submitting a slip for the respective 3 minutes to address City Council.
We are asking due consideration of the unique public health emergency we are in, and if you are seeking to attend simply to observe the ceremonial transition of offices for the Mayor and Council members, please choose to observe on-line or on cable TV.
The lobby of City Hall will be made available for public restroom use only. We will not have over-the-counter operations available for the safety of the public and our staff. There will not be an overflow room inside City Hall. There will not be access to the second floor of City Hall.
We can all agree, there is a multitude of inconveniences the Covid-19 pandemic presents to all of our lives. The intent of this message is only in the interest of protecting the health of our community members, our City Council, and our City staff.
I sincerely appreciate our community’s support during these difficult times and your flexibility. If you wish to speak to City Council regarding a matter on the agenda, please fill out a slip and speak. If you are simply attending to observe the ceremonial aspects of the meeting, please choose the viewing options through our website and cable networks.
With sincere regards,
Charles T. Chapman IV
City Manager
