Oldest House in Naples – Historic Palm Cottage Celebrates Grand Re-Opening April 4

(March 27, 2023) Naples, FL – The public is invited to join Naples Historical Society’s staff, members and volunteers in celebrating the long-awaited re-opening of Historic Palm Cottage™, the oldest house in Naples. We will be open for self-guided tours with knowledgeable docents on hand to answer questions daily from April 4 through April 8 from 12pm-4pm. No reservations are needed.
Soon after Hurricane Ian roared through town, feet of mud and water were quickly cleared from the first floor of the 1895 Cottage in an effort to save its original Dade County Pine floors, as this wood is no longer available for commercial use. During the seven-month restoration project, each piece of wood had to be painstakingly removed plank by plank, dried for months, and then skillfully put back in place. Only then could walls and baseboards be repaired and painted, and furniture and other historic treasures carefully cleaned by hand and arranged as they might have looked at the turn of the century.
Knowledgeable docents will help visitors imagine what it was like to be a guest or resident of this historic landmark in the late 1800s. Guests are also welcome to stroll the adjacent Norris Gardens. Bring your family and friends and celebrate Naples’ history.
