Naples Historical Society Receives Grant From Collier Community Foundation for Hurricane Repair
February 9, 2023
(February 7, 2023) Collier Community Foundation recently awarded a Collier Comes Together grant in the amount of $2,350 to Naples Historical Society for the repair of the alley security gate and adjacent fence protecting Historic Palm Cottage™, the oldest house in Naples, which was damaged during Hurricane Ian. This back gate and fence are key in securing this historic treasure, the Second Chance Foundation Guest House and The Norris Gardens at Palm Cottage.
Historic Palm Cottage has been closed for repairs since the hurricane hit but will reopen to the public on April 4, 2023. To celebrate this grand re-opening event, the public is invited to explore the Cottage and take free docent-led and self-guided tours from April 4-8, 2023, from 12-4pm. No reservations required.
“I want to thank Collier Community Foundation as well as the many generous individual donors who stepped forward to support our restoration efforts, which include unplanned costs exceeding $500,000.” says Elaine Reed, Historical Society President and CEO. “We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we can’t wait to share Historic Palm Cottage and the history of Naples with residents and visitors once again!”
