Emillions Art To Host Exhibit By Winner Of The Rare “Five Ring Award” At The Beijing Olympics Through April 28th
April 11, 2022
NAPLES, FL. – Emillions Art will host an exhibit by world renowned bronze sculptor Shray from April 15th through April 28th. Shray produces fluid bronze renditions of human emotion and achieved the rare goal of winning the “Five Ring Award” at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 for her sculpture “Raising Tomorrow’s Olympic Champions.”
Shray is one of the few working artists today who employs the subtractionist technique, where the artist finds the form in the clay as opposed to adding clay to an armature. Much like the technique of carving, she works with lines and shadows of the block, thoughtfully eliminating material from the block as she sculpts each individual piece.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Shray grew up in Denver, Colorado, and San Francisco, California, the daughter of an artist and actor who inspired her love for art. She attended the San Francisco Art Institute and Academy of Art in San Francisco on full scholarships, entering school as a brilliant painter and coming out a brilliant sculptor as well as painter.
Patrick Haberman, a teacher at the Academy of Art, gave her a private area to work and encouraged her to find the form in the clay as opposed to adding clay to an armature. Both Shray and her teacher realized that she is a natural born subtractionist and sculptor/artist of emotion who creates deep human emotions in her works.
In 2008, Shray was invited to submit a sculpture for the Beijing games’ 2008 Olympic Landscape Sculpture Design Contest, one of eight Americans extended this honor, and just one of two given the “excellent works” distinction – the competition’s highest rating.
Over the past 25 years, Shray’s art has received both national and international recognition. Her bronze sculptures are praised for their depth of feeling. Focus Santa Fe said, “Shray’s sculptures have a direct line to the heart. Standing before one of her works the viewer is connected not only with a beautiful object but with an experience.”
This will be a unique opportunity to acquire extraordinary works from this renowned artist. The exhibit will be open to the public daily at Emillions’ showroom at 837 Fifth Ave. S., Suite 202. For information, visit www.emillionsart.com or call (239)687-3101.
