Microsculptor says his life story took him from childhood torment to adult fulfillment through his tiny artworks
Naples, FL: (February 10, 2020) . . . Discover the magnificent heart behind the microscopic art of Dr. Willard Wigan, MBE, as he shares his personal story at a special appearance Micro Art—Mega Heart on Monday, March 30, 2020 to benefit local children’s Charity for Change.
Sponsored by Emillions Art, e-bella magazine and Life in Naples magazine, Micro Art—Mega Heart will be held at the Norris Center at 755 8th Avenue South. The event begins with a 4:30 pm VIP reception and 5 pm general admission. VIP tickets cost $500 per person and include VIP reception with Dr. Wigan, cocktail reception, art exhibit, admission to presentation and an autographed momento. A $100 general admission ticket incudes the cocktail reception, art exhibit, and admission to Dr. Wigan’s presentation.
According to Marlissa Gardner, founder of global fine art consulting company Emillions Art, Wigan shares Charity for Change’s passion for teaching children the skills needed to promote emotional growth and overcome obstacles and has donated a piece of his art to support the charity’s mission.
With international acclaim, clients including royalty, and two Guinness World records, Wigan’s microsculptures delight and amaze on pinheads, eyelashes and in the eyes of needles. Almost invisible to the human eye, the beauty and detail of his sculptures can only be appreciated when viewed under the lens of a microscope.
Childhood torment, undiagnosed dyslexia and autism led Wigan to create this tiny world. At school he was an example of educational failure and laziness, but was later able to create his miniature world, where his autism and dyslexia became his assets, not burdens. After his exceptional gift was discovered, his unique creations are now collectors’ items.
Born in 1957, Dr. Wigan is a British sculptor from Ashmore Park Estate, Wednesfield, England, the son of Jamaican immigrants, who makes microscopic art. His sculptures are typically placed in the eye of a needle or on the head of a pin. A single sculpture can be as small as 0.005 mm (0.0002 in). Almost invisible to the human eye, the beauty and detail of Wigan’s sculptures can only be appreciated when viewed under the lens of a microscope.
Because the artwork is so small, he has learned how to control his nervous system, heart rate and breathing to ensure he does not make even the tiniest movement. He enters a meditative state where he slows his heartbeat, allowing him to reduce any hand tremors. He works between the slowed down heartbeats.
“Remember, always see the little things as they often make the biggest impact and tell your students never to accept that they can not achieve greatness. We were all born to be great not to be nothing,” says Wigan.
