Fifth Avenue South Announces “Intersections” Exhibition Now Open at Naples Art; Works From Permanent Collection
August 9, 2021
NAPLES, FL. – The Fifth Avenue South Business Improvement District (BID) is pleased to announce the opening of the “Intersections” exhibition at Naples Art. Located just steps from Naples’ Historic Main Street, this new show features surprising discoveries from the organization’s permanent collection amassed over the past 67 years.
The permanent collection includes more than 300 objects reflecting the interests, tastes and motivations of the circle of artists, collectors, founders and other early champions who played a pivotal role in the creation of the community’s oldest art organization, Naples Art Association, in 1954. Forty-five of these incredible works are now on view.
“Intersections considers a curated selection of the most significant works in the collection in terms of their historical value, relevance in our time, and position as emblems of artistic creativity,” said Frank Verpoorten, Executive Director and Chief Curator for Naples Art. “Among the various media are works by towering figures of contemporary art, accomplished and notable national or regional artists, and even self-taught artists.”
Verpoorten noted that the pieces from this private collection were either donated by artists or supporters. The holdings are a testament to the enduring prominence of Naples Art as a beacon for the promotion of the art of our time and by extension to the important role it played in the development of the nascent visual art scene in Southwest Florida.
Located at 585 Park St., Naples Art is an award-winning non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for individual artists of all ages and skill levels and continues to inspire all who visit to live and think artistically. The working art center creates unique opportunities for local artists and guests as well as a full calendar of events each season.
The “Intersections” exhibition opened at the end of July and runs through the end of October. The free exhibit may be viewed Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
