Live collage painting demonstration creates new artworks on Fifth Avenue South
Naples, FL: (February 25, 2020) . . . Visual collage artist Denise Cummings will create new small works of her abstract flowers in Emillions Art’s Outdoor Living Art Series, during a live painting demonstration on Thursday, March 19, 2020 from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm along Fifth Avenue South in Naples. Ms. Cummings will demonstrate her collage process where she assembles different forms, thus creating a new whole.
The outdoor gallery is located at 837 Fifth Avenue South, part the newly reimagined #Artto5thAve space adjacent to global fine art consulting firm Emillions Art and Engel & Volkers/Olde Naples, a luxury international real estate firm where several pieces of Ms. Cummings’ artwork will be on display March 19-26, 2020.
“Denise Cummings is a self-taught visual collage artist currently working out of New York City who has exhibited in Art Basel, Miami, New York City and abroad,” explains Marlissa Gardner, founder of Emillions Art. “Her work comes from her passion for botanicals and organic forms. She obtained a professional horticultural certification to gain knowledge and identify elements of flowering plants more deeply to inspire her series Designing Flowers. With this specialty, she has designed landscapes, gardens, and interior designs. She has dedicated her life to creating beauty.”
The origins of collage are traced back hundreds of years, says Gardner but the technique made a dramatic reappearance at the beginning of the 20th century when both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso became a distinctive part of modern art.
Cummings’ flowers are deconstructed by sculpting out shapes from magazines and then reconstructed into abstract flowers. Her series explores how remarkably similar humans are to flowers.
“My flowers are not bound to illustrated predictability,” explains Ms. Cummings. “I create them for the viewer to be intrigued, give cause for open dialogue, incubate unexpected perspectives, and a spectacular diversion,” she adds.
She continues to draw comparisons and abstractions between humans and flora, noting that flowers are naturally designed by nature with specific colors, textures, shapes and scents for particular pollinators. Humans incorporate dress, home decor, makeup, hairstyles, and social behaviors to specifically attract attention and ultimately find a partner; a pollinator.
“Flowers, its remarkable how much we resemble them,” she believes.
The Emillions Art show space, located on the second floor overlooking Fifth Avenue South, carries several of Ms. Cummings’ artworks, while nationally renowned artists such as Joan Sonnenberg, Carol Calicchio, and Jane Peccarelli are represented alongside international artists like Robert Indiana, Shray, Andreas Nottebohm, David & David, Don Gummer, Layla Love and many more.
Collectors have an exciting opportunity to start their collection with well-known and up-and-coming artists in a broad range of styles and mediums including but not limited to abstract, figurative portraiture, sculpture, photography, mixed media, drawings and paintings.
Ms. Gardner travels the world to negotiate rare masterworks for the discerning collector. She continues to expand the Emillions Art network, creating international partnerships with esteemed gallerists, curators and collectors in the US, Europe and the Mideast. As an authority in fine art asset management, Emillions Art has developed a core collective of leading experts in art appraisals, art history, scientific forensics analysis, authentication, provenance, gallery exhibition, insurance, and other professionals to create a full slate of art industry services catering to ambitious buyers and collectors.
