Willard Wigan Exhibits World’s Smallest Handmade Sculptures at Emillions Art

Microsculptor’s extraordinary creations can only be fully appreciated under a microscope
Naples, FL: (February 3, 2020) . . . Willard Wigan, the creator of the world’s smallest handmade sculptures in history, will open a weeklong exhibit of his artwork at Emillion Art show room on Fifth Avenue South in Naples according to founder and global fine art consultant Marlissa Gardner.
An opening night reception with Mr. Wigan will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 the evening of Thursday, March 12, 2020. The public exhibit is open Friday, March 13 until Thursday, May 19.
Born in 1957, Wigan is a British sculptor from Ashmore Park Estate, Wednesfield, England, the son of Jamaican immigrants, who makes microscopic art. His sculptures are typically placed in the eye of a needle or on the head of a pin. A single sculpture can be as small as 0.005 mm (0.0002 in). Almost invisible to the human eye, the beauty and detail of Wigan’s sculptures can only be appreciated when viewed under the lens of a microscope.
Because the artwork is so small, he has learned how to control his nervous system, heart rate and breathing to ensure he does not make even the tiniest movement. He enters a meditative state where he slows his heartbeat, allowing him to reduce any hand tremors. He works between the slowed down heartbeats.
He says his life story took him from childhood torment to adult fulfillment through his tiny artworks. He once accidentally inhaled one of them, and lost another between his fingerprints. His micro-sculptures have amazed and fascinated both art lovers and scientists – with many people baffled about how he produces such tiny masterpieces on the molecular level.
He has exhibited all over the world and collaborated with watchmakers, jewelers and other artists. He owns two Guinness World Records and received an MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) and an honorary doctorate in recognition of his contribution to art and sculpture. He says his main aim is to inspire people with happiness and wonder.
At school he was an example of educational failure and laziness, but was later able to create his miniature world, where his autism and dyslexia became his assets, not burdens. After his exceptional gift was discovered, his unique creations are now collectors’ items.
“Remember, always see the little things as they often make the biggest impact and tell your students never to accept that they can not achieve greatness. We were all born to be great not to be nothing,” says Wigan.
