46th Annual Christmas Walk & Tree Lighting with Mayor Bill Barnett
Naples, FL: (October 23, 2019) . . . Christmas in Naples will be officially opened at 6:30 pm on Friday, Dec 6, 2019 when Mayor Bill Barnett switches on the Christmas lights at Sudgen Plaza. At the same time, visitors will be able to admire the splendid illuminations adorning the numerous Christmas trees lining the streets of 5th Avenue South.
“Ring in the holidays during Christmas in Naples as the city’s exquisite tree is lit, along with a live Nativity scene, an operatic concert, snow, ice skating and skate rentals, a visit from Santa, and a new culinary tradition: on-street Long-table dining with 5th Avenue South’s finest restaurants,” says Bruce Barone, Jr., executive director of the 5th Avenue South Business Improvement District (BID), sponsor of the two-day event.
Operatic Tenor
International pop tenor and Flamenco guitarist Ghaleb is a Venezuelan-born tenor, classical Flamenco guitarist and recording artist. He is well known by his powerful and velvet tenor voice, captivating audiences with his quality and range, crossing over from Pop to Classical.
In 2015, Ghaleb was invited to compete to sing the National Anthem for the Florida Panthers and became the voice of the national anthem for the Florida Panthers hockey team that year. In addition to touring internationally, Ghaleb has recorded three albums, Musica, Romance and Alegria & Emotions.
Ghaleb will perform a live concert with hits including Broadway favorites, boleros such as “Bésame Mucho,” and famous classical arias and folklore favorites like “Alma Llanera,” on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 pm.
“We’re thrilled to be presenting the sensational Ghaleb at Christmas in Naples on 5th Avenue South,” says Barone. “Ghaleb’s impressive vocal and instrumental talents will set the mood for a magical evening.”
Long Table dining
The Long-Table dining is made possible by the 5th Avenue South BID showcasing many of the award-winning restaurants located within the Downtown area with seating at a 1,600 foot long table that spans down the double yellow line along 5th Avenue South – it’s Naples loveliest dining table, one that runs more than five blocks.
A feast for the eyes, Vergina, Sails, Caffe Milano, La Trattoria, BICE, Cafe Molto, The French, Osteria Tulia and Ocean Prime restaurants will compete for the “Best in Show” decorated table design. From elegant to eclectic, each restaurant stages a unique theme through its table settings to showcase its special style or cuisine.
“Arrive early and walk the Avenue to view the beautifully decorated tables,” suggests Barone. “Don’t forget to vote for the People’s Choice Award by voting for your favorite Christmas table scape by uploading a picture of it to Facebook or Instagram, using #ChristmasinNaples and checking into or tagging the restaurant name. A judging panel will also be scoring the tables to award three top prizes to the restaurant with the best table décor.
“If you’re interested in attending Long-Table this year, you must make a reservation with the individual restaurant you want to dine at. Make sure to make your reservations ASAP because tables are already filling up quickly,” advises Barone.
Christmas Market
A day-long Christmas Market is new this year and can be found on the west end of 5th Avenue South, the heart of the festively decorated six blocks on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 am until 10 pm. Over 100 traders and artisans will offer their goods for sale. Visitors can explore products from all around the world and have unique shopping experiences while enjoying international food, beverages and performances at the outdoor market that is free of admission.
“Anyone still looking for gift ideas can seek inspiration in the wide selection and enchanting ambience,” advises Barone. “Be ready to make some wonderful memories, collect a specialty souvenir, and get into the holiday spirit Naples-style.”
Public parking lots and garage parking are available, as well as some valet locations. 5th Avenue South will be closed during the event. Side streets will remain open for vehicle access. Additionally, free trolley service will be available from the Collier County government center both days.
