February 6, 2019
NAPLES, FL (January 29, 2019) – The Naples Players (TNP) present, in collaboration with Conrad Williams, a Dale Chihuly-trained glass artist, a unique opportunity for the pubic to experience the art of blown glass in motion. On Feb 7th, 2019 at 6:30 p.m., Williams will set-up his mobile glassblowing studio outside in The Naples Players Sugden Plaza on 5th Avenue where he will present to the audience the creation of one of his larger works. During the evening, Williams will also demonstrate the formation of an ornament and a small bowl, an experience normally available to the public by appointment-only at his private Naples studio (as well as on Thursdays and Saturdays at the Ritz Carlton Beach Resort). Williams’ refined artistic skills, alongside his exceptional ability to articulate his process, make for a one-of-a-kind event. All are invited to see the vision of a skilled glass-blowing artist come to life and and see what is possible for even a first-time glassblower. In the spirit of sharing this ancient art, this exclusive demonstration will be free to the public to witness the magic of molten glass in transformation.
An intimate showing of Williams’ work will be on display on-site, with additional pieces on-display at Peach Tree Designs on 5th Avenue South, Judith Liegeois Designs, and St-Tropez on 3rd Street South. Williams will be assisted by his wife, a fellow nationally-acclaimed artist and RISD graduate, Erin Williams.
A native of Naples, Conrad Williams has been creating with glass since 1998. He received his B.F.A. from California College of the Arts in glass and sculpture. He settled into the Northwest after completing a year-long internship with Ben Moore and Dale Chihuly. In 2008, Conrad and Erin Williams opened Studio West, an interactive gallery and glassblowing studio. The studio served as a venue for Conrad to create his work, and as a teaching facility, that was rated as a “Top Things to Do in Eugene”, Oregon. Shortly after the birth of his first son, Conrad and Erin returned to their hometown, Naples, FL to pursue their creative endeavors. Conrad’s work continues to draw from the heritage of Italian techniques, while appreciating Scandinavian simplicity.
