ROAD TRIP through SWFL
April 7, 2018
THE TRAVELING “TRAILblazers” exhibit, now on display at the Collier Museum at Government Center in Naples, traces the rocky origins of the dream road that cost 13 years, $8 million and countless lives to connect Tampa to Miami. Visitors can view the exhibit, which celebrates the 90th anniversary of the opening of Tamiami Trail, through April 27. It was originally created for the Coral Gables Museum, where it debuted in 2015.
The route’s geographical goalposts give Tamiami Trail its name, although it goes by different handles along the coast of Southwest Florida: U.S. 41, Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers, Ninth Street in Naples and “the original Alligator Alley” through the Everglades.
